From the Desk of the Executive Director

Fellow Texas Inspectors:

The TPREIA family remains growing rapidly, our membership is currently over 1350 Members Strong!

Everything Is Local

The importance of local Chapters cannot be stressed enough.  TPREIA Chapters are the legs that move the body (Association).

As current TPREIA President and Executive Director, I want to say how proud and thankful we are of our Inspector members willing to give time and knowledge to other Inspectors to build a strong and professional industry.  On behalf of the TPREIA Board of Directors, Thank you!

We currently have 10 Chapters across Texas with more on the horizon.  Please let the State Chapter Development Committee know if there is not a Chapter in your area, consider building a TPREIA family in your area, the TPREIA Board of Directors are always ready to help.

Chapter BoD

Each position on a board at the local level is so important to the overall success of the Chapters including the local group served, serving others is one of the most rewarding things one can do.  If you have wanted to work within this great family, there is always an opportunity.

New Look/New System

In order to get the most out of your membership be sure to check that your profile is fully setup and up-to-date; including:

  • Headshot Picture - this is very important for your fellow members to put a face to a name
  • Inspector Finder Services - If no services are saved, the company will not show up on the map nor in searches
  • Current Email Address - This is crucial as this is the primary communication method with you (especially for password recovery)

Rodents Chewing Through PEX Pipe

PEX Pipe Is Vulnerable.

Rodents chewing through PEX Pipe is a common problem in our area. It doesn’t matter how old your home is, if you have an attic, you need to watch for rodent damage to PEX Pipe or PVC. If you’re hearing rustling noises coming from the attic, it’s time to do an inspection. It won’t be long before these critters look for something to gnaw on.

It’s instinctive, especially with tree climbers like rats and squirrels. According to NYC Rodentologist Dr. Bobby Corrigan, rat’s incisors (the front teeth) are hard — harder than iron, platinum and copper. Measured on the Mohs hardness scale, the rat’s lower incisors rank 5.5 (diamond is a 10). Therefore, a rodent can, and will, gnaw through water pipes to get to food and water when they smell it.

PEX Pipe and PVC are Malleable

Finding out you have rodents living in your house can be an unsettling discovery. Mice and rats are dangerous because they can bite, bring fleas and disease into a home, and create a toxic environment by defecating and urinating within the walls. But most importantly, they have an ability to chew through plastic water pipes in hard-to-reach places
